Forest Service

White River National Forest (WRNF) Travel Management Plan
This project has been on going for several years. We have written letters, attended meetings, and are now currently working with the Forest Service planning staff at the Forest Supervisor level. We expect the WRNF Travel Management Plan draft to be published the middle of the summer of 2008.

Letter to WRNF:

Gunnison National Forest (GNF) Travel Management Plan
This project has been on going since the summer of 2006. The Trails Preservation Alliance (TPA) and Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition (COHVCO) have spent a significant amount of time, labor and money in an effort to give the GNF planning staff a better understanding of the OHV recreation issues in the GNF. This spring the GNF will publish the first draft of their preferred alternative for the Travel Management Plan. The TPA, COHVCO and several national organizations will be working this issue.

Pike San Isabel (PSI) National Forest
The PSI National Forest will start their Forest Plan and Travel Management Plan (TMP) this year. The Trails Preservation Alliance has all ready been working the issue with the PSI staff. The PSI represents a major area that could be expanded for OHV recreation.

Letter to PSI:

San Juan National Forest, and Rico West Dolores area (BLM and GMUG)
The San Juan National Forest (SJNF), and Rico West Dolores area (BLM and GMUG) are starting their Travel Planning process now. The Trails Preservation Alliance is working closely with the local motorcycle clubs in the area to prepare the necessary documentation to preserve what few single track trails are left in that area. The deadline for public input into the SJNF Forest Plan has been extended to April 11, 2008.

Motor Vehicle Use Map and Travel Management Rule
This Forest Service (FS) action is being contested at many levels, with various organizations. The Trails Preservatation Alliance is actively involved trying to get a delay on the implementation of this action by the FS. News on this issue and other actions involving the Motor Vehicle Use Map and Travel Management Rule will be published on this website.
