One Voice Forest Roads Dashboard
Supported by the Trails Preservation Alliance
A First-of-Its-Kind Resource for Protecting and Expanding Motorized Access
The Trails Preservation Alliance is proud to support the One Voice Forest Roads Dashboard—the first comprehensive resource of its kind to compile and compare National Forest roads, motorized trails, and closed roads across the United States.
Developed by One Voice in partnership with Colorado Offroad Trail Defenders, with legal consultation from Land Access Consulting and support from the Trails Preservation Alliance, the dashboard provides recreationists, advocates, public land managers, and decision-makers with an unprecedented view of motorized recreation opportunities across our National Forest System.
By bringing together information that has never before been assembled and presented in this way, the dashboard helps users better understand current access, identify opportunities to improve motorized recreation, and support informed, data-driven advocacy.
Why it Matters
Access to our public lands continues to evolve as National Forests update travel management plans and transportation systems. Having accurate, easy-to-understand information is essential for participating in these planning efforts and advocating for responsible recreation.
Until now, there has never been a single resource that allowed advocates to compare motorized access opportunities and road inventories across National Forests on a nationwide scale. The Forest Roads Dashboard fills that gap by providing consistent information that supports more effective advocacy, informed public participation, and better decision-making.
The Forest Roads Dashboard allows users to:
> Explore National Forests and Ranger Districts across the country.
> Compare miles of open roads, motorized trails, and closed roads.
> Better understand how motorized recreation opportunities are distributed across National Forests and Ranger Districts.
> Identify areas where existing closed roads may present opportunities for future public access through appropriate planning processes.
> Support informed discussions during travel management planning and other public land decisions.
TPA's Role
The Trails Preservation Alliance recognized the potential of this groundbreaking project and was proud to help bring it to fruition through both financial support and meaningful input on how the data could best inform public land advocacy.
In addition to supporting the project's development, TPA encouraged the inclusion of perspective-based statistics that help illustrate how little of a National Forest is actually occupied by roads and motorized trails. These metrics provide important context that supports informed, fact-based discussions about access, stewardship, and the responsible management of our public lands.
As part of our mission to protect, improve, and expand responsible motorized recreation opportunities, TPA believes providing advocates with accurate, understandable information is essential for effective public land advocacy.
